TOP 5: Most Sought After Players Who Have Suffered Premier League Relegation

It has been a tough season for those languishing at the bottom of the table, with many teams battling against relegation for a large portion of the season.

Although they battled for much of the season, Hull's mini resurgence under new manager Marco Silva was not enough to keep them up, with a humbling 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace condemning them to relegation. They joined Sunderland and Middlesbrough in relegation to the Championship; both of which had quite miserable seasons.

But amidst the ranks of the three relegated teams, there was talent that shone throughout the Premier League season. This article will examine and list the Top five players from the three relegated teams that deserve a transfer to a Premier League side in the summer.

5) Alvaro Negredo
5) Alvaro Negredo has done enough to earn himself a move back to the Premier League

Middlesbrough may have been impotent in attack throughout the season, but this was not due to the efforts of the man dubbed 'The Beast'.

Unfortunately for the Spaniard, a lack of quality in midfield for Middlesbrough meant that there was little support for Negredo and thus he was made to feed off scraps for most this season.

Nevertheless, Negredo still possesses the work ethic, goal-scoring instincts and technical ability to be successful in the Premier League. His nine-goal haul is not a huge tally, but can be considered impressive as it amounted to a 1/3 of Middlesbrough's 27 goals in the league this season.

Although he turns 32 in a few months, the Spaniard, who has 21 caps for his country, deserves a move back to the Premier League; either as a 1st choice or a back-up striker.

4) Harry Maguire
4) Harry Maguire could be in line for an England call-up somewhere in the near future

Following Marco Silva's appointment as manager, Maguire became a main-stay in the heart of the Hull defence and delivered several impressive performances.

Standing at 6-foot-5, Maguire's strengths lie mostly from his aerial ability, but he is also comfortable with the ball at his feet.

The former Sheffield United man has clearly impressed at the back this season, with Whoscored.com ranking him as Hull's best performer for 2016/2017, awarding him a 7.07 rating from his 36 appearances.

Maguire could be a target for teams looking to shore up their defence, with teams such as Leicester, Liverpool and Newcastle all rumoured to be interested with the Hull defender.

3) Ben Gibson
3) Ben Gibson was a major reason why Middlesborough had the 9th best defence in the Premier League this season

Gibson was somewhat of an unknown quantity for most Premier League fans at the start of the season, but he has emerged into one of England's most promising centre backs in his debut Premier League season.

It was not Middlesbrough's defence that let them down; it was their attack. In fact, the Yorkshire club have only conceded 50 goals from their 37 games, giving them the 9th best defence in the league.

Although he is yet to make his England debut, he has still attracted the attention of the country's best clubs, with Chelsea, Leicester and Arsenal just a few clubs that are interested in acquiring his services for next season.

2) Jermaine Defoe
2) Despite being 34 years-old, Jermaine Defoe remains one of the most prolific strikers in the league

Considering he was playing at easily the Premier League's worst club, Jermaine Defoe has had a remarkable season.

Although he will turn 35 in October, Defoe has maintained his ability to find the net throughout his career, and this season has been no different.

Defoe has been an ever present for Sunderland this season, featuring in all but eight minutes of Sunderland's campaign to date.

In that time, he has been in superb scoring form, finding the net 15 times for the struggling club. It is hard to find goal scorers in the Premier League, but Defoe has proven he is one of the best in the business.

He will undoubtedly be on the radar of most Premier League teams, with former clubs Bournemouth and West Ham both reported to be interested in giving him a return to the Premier League.

1) Jordan Pickford
1) Liverpool, Manchester City and Everton all need goalkeepers.... they should all see Jordan Pickford as the answer

In his first full season as a Premier League goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford has been nothing short of superb. Without Pickford and Defoe, it is doubtful whether Sunderland would have picked up double digits in points this season.

Although the rest of the team has been disastrous, the youngster has been a rock between the sticks, making 121 saves in the league to date. This places him second for saves amongst Premier League goalkeepers, despite the fact he has only featured in 27 games.

Despite his heroics, the 23-year old could not prevent Sunderland from going down. Fortunately for Pickford he has proven himself as one of England's best goalkeepers, making him one of the most sought after players this summer.

He has attracted the attention of goalkeeper needy teams such as Everton and West Ham, he could play at an even higher level. Manchester City and Liverpool both have had goalkeeper troubles this season; both should look no further than Jordan Pickford.
