TOP 5: England's Talented Teenagers

Let's be honest. English football is not in a good place. Not only is the national team flattering to deceive in major tournaments, but the Premier League has also declined quality.

It can even be argued that the state of affairs in English football is reaching an alarming position. As a footballing nation we have hit an all time low.

But it is not all doom and gloom. Despite the standard of English players being remarkably poor this decade compared to the last, there are those that offer hope for the future. Amidst the negativity, there are those that offer hope for the future.

In this article, The Football Addick names his TOP 5 most talented teens from England. Which Liverpool youngster makes the list? Which 18 year-old midfielder is ranked at number 2? And where does Championship sensation Ryan Sessegnon feature in the top 5? Find out the answer to all these questions in the upcoming article.

5) Joe Gomez - Age: 19
5) Despite a promising start to his Liverpool career, Joe Gomez has since seen his progress halted due to a long term injury 

At number 5 is Liverpool's young defender, Joe Gomez. Although he is naturally a centre back, the youngster is also comfortable playing as a full back on either side. Blessed with pace, strength and good technical ability, Gomez has all the traits needed to become a top class defender in the future.

Joe Gomez made his professional debut as a 17 year-old, featuring for Charlton in a 4-0 romp against Colchester United in the League Cup. It soon became apparent that the youngster was a special talent with huge potential.

After featuring 24 times for the South East London club in his first season as a professional, the highly rated youngster made the move to Liverpool for a fee believed to be around the £3 million mark.

It looked as if he would become an instant starter for Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers favouring him over Alberto Moreno at left back. After a good start to the season, unfortunately for Gomez he would suffer an anterior cruciate ligament injury, an injury which would keep him out for a year.

Now 19 years of age, Gomez's progress has seemed to have slowed and he now finds himself on the periphery of the of the Liverpool first team. However, if his performances in a Charlton shirt, as well as a promising start to life at Liverpool is anything to go by, Gomez has the potential to be a full England international in the future.

4) Tammy Abraham - Age: 19
4) Tammy Abraham has scored a plethora of goals at Bristol City this term, but will he force himself into the first team at Chelsea next season?

Another extremely talented English teenager is Chelsea's Tammy Abraham. Although on the books at Chelsea, it has been during his loan spell at Bristol City where the prolific striker has shown his huge potential.

Despite only being 19 years of age, Abraham has been in electric form this season for Bristol City. In total, he scored 26 goals in 48 appearances for his club, a remarkable tally for someone of his age.

Moreover, his 23 goals in the league saw him finish second in the goal-scoring charts, 3 behind Chris Wood. These goals were vital for Bristol City as they finished in 17th position, 3 points above the relegation zone.

Scoring that many goals for a struggling side is testament to Abraham's goal-scoring ability and makes his tally even more impressive. Having narrowly steered clear of relegation, it can be argued that with out the youngster's goals Bristol city would have been relegated.

Equipped with physical strength and lethal finishing, Abraham has the potential to be a leading Premier League striker in the future. However, with opportunities for youngsters at Chelsea being few and far between, Abraham will have his work cut out as he looks to establish himself as a first choice striker at the Premier League giants.

3) Ryan Sessegnon - Age: 16
3) Ryan Sessegnon made his debut at just 16 years and 81 days. he would later become the first player born in the 2000's to score in the English leagues

Ryan Sessegnon has been a revelation this season and despite being only 16-years of age, he has established himself as a regular in a good Fulham side. His performances have attracted the attention of the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, meaning the Cottagers have a huge battle to keep their teenage sensation on their hands this summer.

This season, Sessegnon has made 27 appearances and netted 7 times. His performances have been so impressive that he was named in the 2016/2017 PFA Championship Team of the Year.

Comfortable everywhere down the left hand side, Sessegnon is a player who is comfortable in both defence and attack. With maturity way beyond his years, he looks set to secure himself to a top Premier League side somewhere in the not too distant future.

Sessegnon also had a twin brother on the books at Fulham named Steven: watch out for him in the future too!

2) Tom Davies - Age: 18
2) Tom Davies has the potential to be a regular England international in the future

Ronald Koeman has a number of young talent at his disposal; having called upon the likes of Mason Holegate, Matthew Pennington, Ademola Lookman and Dominic Calvert-Lewin this season. But the best of the lot is Tom Davies.

The 18 year-old has had a dream first season at Everton. Blessed with tenacity, technical ability and a good work rate; Davies has made his mark this season in a number of Premier League games.

Since making his first Premier League start in a 3-0 victory over Southampton in January, Davies has been an ever-present for the Merseyside club. In total he has featured 23 times this season, netting 2 goals; including a superb solo effort against Manchester City. He has also racked up 3 assists.

The Evertonian is yet to make appear for England beyond the U19 age group, but if he carries on his form then it seems only a matter of time before Gareth Southgate selects him for his squad.

Marcus Rashford is not just one of the most talented footballers in England. He is also one of the most talented youngsters in world football, having been ranked as the 5th most talented teenager in the world in a previous article.

Since bursting onto the scene in a Europa League tie last season, Rashford has shown his great potential with a string of highly impressive displays.

After a fantastic first season as professional last season, expectations were high for the talented forward. Despite not hitting the highs that many would have expected from him, at 19 years of age Rashford has all but established himself as a regular at Manchester United.

This season, Rashford has appeared 49 times for his club, scoring 11 goals. Despite having not reached his twenties, the youngster has already appeared 8 times for his country, where he scored on his debut.

Blessed with electric pace and a natural goal scoring ability, Rashford looks set to be the future of English football for many years to come. Can he deliver success to a national team that have had little to shout about for the past 50 years!?
