Thiago Messi - will he ever be as good as his father? |
On the 2nd November 2012, a potential star was born. Lionel Messi, arguably one of the greatest footballers in history to grace the beautiful game, became a father. He gave birth to a baby boy named Thiago and much is expected of the son of the Argentine sensation, despite only being a month old. Clubs have already raced for his signature with Newell's Old Boys already making Thiago an official club supporter, increasing their chances that he will be involved in their youth set up. There has also been a major dispute whether the potential star will appear for Spain or Argentina . Having been born in Spain , Thiago will have a decision to make whether he will represent the country of his birth or the nation of his father. With Lionel firmly connected to Barcelona for the unforeseeable future, if Thiago does emulate the success of his father, or even becomes half the player he is, he will have a big decision to make regarding what country he chooses to represent.
But obviously these are based on whether Thiago can come anywhere near to emulating the extraordinary achievements of his father. Even if the new born Messi inherits a minority of his father’s talent, I am sure we will witness him honing his skills on a world stage in the future. Luckily for us, Lionel is still 24 and still has the world at his feet. At the time of writing he has scored an incredible 281 goals in 350 appearances and this number is only going to rise considering he hasn't even reached 25. But when Lionel retires, and arguably one of the greatest players ever in existence hangs up his boots, all eyes will be on Thiago Messi; the next potential world beater. He's only 1 month old, but in 20 years time, we may be watching with awe as the new Messi dazzles the world with mind boggling skill inherited by his father. Maybe.
