Michu - Bargain of the season

When Brendan Rodgers departed Swansea to take the Liverpool job at the start of the season, the vacant managerial job at the Welsh team was taken by Michael Laudrup. Laudrup had had success in Spain and decided to stick to his roots, bringing in a number of Spanish recruits such as Pablo Hernandez and Chico. But most importantly, he made a signing that few people had heard of. A Spanish attacking midfielder by the name of Michu was brought in for a fee of £2 million, a nominal fee considering the money that is thrown about at will in the foot balling world. No one knew what the lad can do, but 16 Premier League games and 12 goals later; he has announced himself to the public eye in blistering fashion. With his goals the main reason why Swansea are performing admirably despite the limited funds at their disposal, Michu could be considered as the bargain of the season.

Laudrup's decision to sign Michu for £2 million may go down
as the transfer of the season
£2 million. £2 million for a man who had chipped in with 15 goals from midfield for a struggling La Liga side last season. For a player with such a reputation and such an impressive goal scoring record, £2 million for a man of that calibre is a steal. But Michu wasn't just a one season wonder, he has taken his goal scoring form and transferred if from La Liga to the Premier League. Like I mentioned earlier, Michu has tallied an impressive 12 goals in 16 game this season for Swanseas; which gives him a goal to game ratio of 0.75. His ability to find the net and take his chances has meant he is currently the top goal scorer in the Premier League, eclipsing the tallies of world class strikers such as Van Persie and Luis Suarez. The goals he has provided have been invaluable for the Welsh based club, who have time and time again looked to the big Spaniard to supply the firepower needed to compete with the Premier League's big boys.

Michu and his trademark celebration which we have
seen 12 times already this season

The Premier League is supposedly the toughest league in the world and Michu has managed to take it by storm. He has been a revelation since signing for the Swans in the summer and he has all the traits needed to be a world class footballer. First of all, he fits Swansea's passing philosophy to the core. He's comfortable on the ball, and this composure means he is able to pass and move freely. His movement in and around the box has also been a major part of his game. He's able to find space in the box and gets in to threatening areas so easily, whilst also having the composure and the finishing ability to convert the chances brought about by his movement. Lastly, is that his threat both in the air and with the ball at his feet makes him so unpredictable. At 6 foot 3, Michu holds both the strength and the aerial ability to be a threat both from open play and set pieces. With this being such a major part of his game, Michu has been able to score a number of headers; most recently when he bagged 2 late headers in a 4-3 loss at home to Norwich.

There is no doubt that Michu has proven to be one of the bargain buys this season. The Spaniard has all the traits, he's big, he's strong, he has a sweet left foot, and he's able to provide goals from midfield. All this has been a huge bonus to Swansea and they are being repaid for the faith they showed in him by coughing up £2 million in the summer for his services. But sadly for Swansea is that his blistering form has attracted the attention from the countries biggest clubs, with Manchester United and Liverpool both reportedly interested in securing the services of the talented Spaniard. Nevertheless, Michu has lit up the Premier League this season and he has also been widely tipped to gain a call up for the Spain national side. If he keeps this up, not only will we be seeing Michu move to one of the world’s biggest clubs, but we will also be seeing Michu strut his stuff for Spain on an international stage. And all this, for only £2 million.
