Stevie 3 - Still got It!
Gerrard has had his doubters over the years, but I'm sure that even his critics stood up and applauded his performance last night. He was absolutely superb. Gerrard was the driving force behind all that was good about Liverpool on a memorable night at Anfield, where the loyal kopites witnessed a famous 3-0 demolishment over their local rivals Everton. Liverpool have undergone a turbulent season, which has led to the discontent displayed from the Liverpool faithful who have voiced their concerns over the overall quality and form of the team. Nevertheless, securing the double over their rivals from just across Stanley park have no doubt been a saving grace for them this season, with captain fantastic Steven Gerrard putting in an immaculate performance to ensure a memorable night at Anfield.
You probably would think I was exaggerating, but Gerrard by himself solely won the game for Liverpool last night. Along with scoring all 3 goals last night, his performance in the middle of the park was truly inspiring. He epitomised all that was good about Liverpool, controlling the midfield and making the Everton centre midfield pairing of Fellani and Rodwell look average. His defensive work as well as his attacking work was a joy to behold, in addition to his hard work and tireless running all night for his team.
But best of all; he led by example. Liverpool needed a boost having looked particularly out of sorts in recent weeks, going down to the likes of Sunderland and Arsenal which has resulted in them losing 3 games on the trot, something that hadn't been achieved for a considerable number of years. But Gerrard was visibly adamant that it wouldn't be a 4th, his face a picture of concentration and determination as he lined up in the tunnel. He replicated this look of sheer determination onto the pitch, putting in a masterful display and influencing his teammates to stop the rot and enjoy a satisfying 3-0 win over their local rivals.
If Gerrard stays fit and stays clear of injury, I can see him continuing to be a key figure for both Liverpool andEngland for a number of years to come. He's fearless, he's talented and most of all he's inspirational, and these traits are incredibly valuable to any team. In my opinion, Gerrard has been the most complete player to grace the Premier League, and his performance against Everton certainly showed that. To anyone that wrote Gerrard off - Gerrard is still the man. Just remember that.

Gerrard wheels away in sheer delight, and earns Liverpool a massive 3 points |
Which makes me laugh most is that many football fans across the country thought that he was past it. Well if they need evidence to suggest otherwise: Gerrard just supplied it yesterday. Yes he's getting old, 32 in May to be exact, and yes he's had his injury problems, but world class players never loses their talent; regardless of their age. Take Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes for example. At 38 and 37 years of age, they’re still playing at the highest level and have undoubtedly been two of the best Premier League players that have ever lived, and even though they are not getting any younger - they are still up there with the best. It's the same with Gerrard. I believe he'll be going for at least 5 years to come at the highest level. He's that good.
