TOP 5: Premier League Managers Of The Season

Image
Managers are often held accountable to their team’s fortunes and all of those that graced the Premier League this season performed to varying degrees of success. In total, there were 27 managers across this year’s Premier League, with eight managerial casualties. Following the last day of the season, three more have added to that list through resignations, meaning that an incredible eleven managers have lost their job because of their teams' poor league position. But there were a handful of managers that can be commended for leading their team to success in the 2016/2017 season. In this article, The Football Addick lists his Premier League managers of the season... 5) Jurgen Klopp - Liverpool 5) Liverpool's charismatic manager, Jurgen Klopp , has guided the club to Champions League qualification this season Liverpool secured Champions League qualification for only the second time in eight seasons, and Jurgen Klopp must take a lot of credit for ensuring they...

TOP 5: Premier League's Greatest Portuguese

Image
Although it is uncommon to see Portuguese players plying their trade in the Premier League, a few elite players from the country have made a name for themselves on English shores.  In his sixth edition of TOP 5, The Football Addick will now turn his attention to naming his TOP 5 Premier League's Greatest Portuguese, using facts and figures to reinforce his claims. As aforementioned, there was not an extensive pool of Portuguese footballers to choose from. Those that were considered but did not make the Top 5 include Raul Meireles, Cedric Soares, Jose Bosingwa, Deco and Ricardo Quaresma. Deco and Quaresma were probably the two that came the closest to making the list, but their footballing peaks occurred away from England and thus were omitted. Now onto the list of the Premier League's Top 5 Greatest Portuguese. Which 2016 Euro Championship winner takes the number 5 spot? Which nine-year Premier League veteran makes the list? And can anyone come close to challenging Cristian...

TOP 5: World's Talented Teenagers

Image
I was watching Dortmund and AS Monaco contest their Champions League tie last week and I noticed something unusual. Unfortunately, the tie will probably be most noted for off-field incidents; where an explosion near the Dortmund bus prior to the game left Marc Bartra hospitalised. However, when their quarter final match-up was played, it was a thoroughly entertaining game with both teams showing a great deal of attacking flair. But the talent on show was not just limited to veteran professionals who have experienced occasions like this for years; three of the players on the pitch were teenagers.   18 year-old Kylian Mbappe terrorised the Dortmund defence from the outset as he bagged two goals. Ousname Dembele and Christian Pulisic were the other two teenagers on display and impressed themselves. Their notable displays on such a big stage made me think: Who are the most talented teenagers in world football? Do any of the three named above make the Top 5? Do any English ...

TOP 5: Premier League's Greatest Germans

Image
Germany are probably Europe's most decorated footballing nation, having won four world cups and three European Championships. However, despite the success of the international team, many of the nation's best players have largely remained in their homeland for the vast majority of their career's. Therefore, despite being Europe's top footballing nation; when you think of the Premier League's greatest players,  surprisingly   very few are German. Nevertheless, although German players have largely stayed away from English shores, there has been a handful of whom have decided to test themselves in the world' most exciting league. Players such as Lukas Podolski, Andre Schurrle, Jens Lehmann and Markus Babbel were all decent players when playing in England, but unfortunately none have made the Top 5. Bastian Schweinsteiger is probably the best and most decorated player to grace the Premier League, but unfortunately he has been omitted because of the torrid time he e...

TOP 5: Premier League's Greatest Belgians

Image
Belgium never used to be a footballing powerhouse. Prior to reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2014, 'The Red Devils' had not even qualified for a major tournament since 2002. But a remarkable generation of Belgian footballers have emerged and many have chosen to ply their trade in the Premier League; beginning with Vincent Kompany in 2008. More have made the move to English soil year after year, to the point where the Premier League is now home to some of the most talented footballers that Belgium have ever produced. Narrowing down the list to just 5 is always a hard task and some may be surprised by some of the names I have chosen to emit.  Amongst the players that were considered  but have not made the list include Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United fans may be upset he was even considered), Christian Benteke, Thomas Vermaelan, Moussa Dembele and Kevin Miralles. In addition to them, t here is one player in particularly  that some will be dismayed that ...

Frenchmen have participated in the Premier League in their droves over the years, all to varying degrees of success. In his third edition of TOP 5, The Football Addick will now turn his attention to naming his TOP 5 Best Frenchmen to play in the Premier League, using facts and figures to reinforce his claims. There has been a multitude of talent that has crossed the English Channel to play in the Premier League in the last 25 years. Unfortunately, many extremely talented Frenchmen that have made their mark in the English game have had to miss out. Amongst the players that I considered but narrowly missed out include Patrice Evra, David Ginola, Robert Pires, Claude Makelele and Nicholas Anelka. All in their own right were fantastic servants to their English clubs, but unfortunately did not quite make the list. Now onto the list of the TOP 5 Frenchmen to play in the Premier League. Which former Chelsea defender made the list? Where did a legendary Arsenal midfielder finish in the top...
