Charlton Athletic reject offer from Championship club for star player

Image
Charlton Athletic have rejected a bid from an unnamed Championship side for Macauley Bonne. The 24-year-old only made the move to The Addicks last summer, with Charlton paying Leyton Orient £200,000 for his services. Bonne had a successful debut season for Charlton, scoring 11 times in 33 Championship games. Following Charlton's 3-0 loss against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. Lee Bowyer confirmed that Bonne was not for sale. "That [offer for Bonne] happened and we turned it down," he said, per Louis Mendez. "We've gone back to them and said he's not for sale." The offer may have come from Preston North End. It has been reported that they were preparing a bid of around £500,000 for the Zimbabwean. Burnley have also been linked with a move. If he stay put this summer, Bonne will no doubt play a major role as Charlton attempt to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Match Report Sheffield Wednesday hosted table topping Charlton in a high profile match which saw 1st play 3rd in the Npower League 1 standings. The match was destined to be an intense match, with Sheffield Wednesday’s formidable form at home matching Charlton's success on the road. It was also the small matter of Addicks legend Chris Powell marking his 1 year anniversary as manager of the club, and he was surely looking to celebrate this with an away win against a tough Wednesday side. It was Sheffield Wednesday who started off brighter, with Chris Lines' shot well saved by Addicks keeper Ben Hamer. Charlton responded with a goal, Captain fantastic Johnnie Jackson curling in a terrific free kick from 25 yards straight into the top corner, sparking Jubilance in the Charlton away end (and in the home end where my brother was sitting). That was Jackson 's 9th goal this term, an impressive tally considering he had to spend 6 weeks on the sidelines. The Owls respon...
