Four Potential Replacements For David De Gea At Manchester United

This summer will most likely be an extremely nervy transfer window for Manchester United fans. Why? because Real Madrid seem to have set their sights on United's star man, David De Gea.

Although their £60 million move was rejected by Manchester United yesterday, it is almost inevitable that Real Madrid will respond with a higher offer. Money is of no object to the Spanish giants and when they want someone; they usually get them.

It is therefore a very worrying time for United fans, who will be extremely worried that their irreplaceable goalkeeper will leave the club. Although the English club would be doing all they can to keep De Gea, they must prepare accordingly if their worst fears are realised.

Shoot! Draws up a list of four goalkeepers that Manchester United should be targeting just in case De Gea does leave for Real Madrid...

Jan Oblak
Jan Oblak would be an ideal replacement, but does Atletico's transfer embargo scupper any chances of a potential transfer?

Jan Oblak would not come cheap, but if Manchester United are to get someone as close to David De Gea's ability as they possibly can, then Oblak should be high on their list.

At Just 24 years-old, Oblak has already established himself as one of the world's best goalkeeper and he still has his best years ahead of him.

He has spent three years as the goalkeeper of one of the world's most feared defences. This season, Atletico easily had the league’s best defence in La Liga; having only conceded 27 goals in their 38 games. Last season was the same story; Atletico only conceded 18 times across their whole league campaign. A key component for their solid defence was the consistency of their goalkeeper.

The Atletico Madrid man is the most established goalkeeper on this list, but would also be the most expensive. But a move for the Slovenian would be well worth it.

Joe Hart
Could Joe Hart make the surprise move across Manchester this summer?

Joe Hart would be the most surprising replacement, but he should be someone United consider to be their new number one.

Despite being England's and Manchester City's number one for many years, Hart has fallen out of favour at City following the arrival of Pep Guardiola as manager. He spent this campaign on loan at Torino, where he could not stop the Italian club from conceding an alarming 66 goals from their 38 league games.

Nevertheless, there is no disputing Hart's pedigree. He had accumulated 70 England caps. He has also featured in 494 games at club level, despite only being 30 years of age. He is also a two-time Premier League winner, and has won the golden glove on four occasions.

A move across United would be unlikely, but not impossible. With City looking to offload Joe Hart, he is on the shop window and could go for cheap.

Jordan Pickford
Jordan Pickford has impressed this season, but could a move to a top Premier League club be too soon for him?

This season Jordan Pickford has proven himself as one of the world's best up and coming goalkeepers.

Pickford's performances this season for Sunderland have been nothing short of heroic. He saved his club on numerous occasions; and if it had not been for his goalkeeping skills they would most probably have finished with single digits for points.

Despite only featuring in 21 games in the league this season, he was 2nd for saves (135), 5th highest for high claims (46) and tied 2nd for punches (22). He was one of Sunderland's only positives in an extremely disappointing season.

At only 23 years of age, Pickford is one for the future. The only negative is, he has only made 23 appearances in the Premier League. Therefore, his purchase would be a gamble, but it could be one that pays off for United.

Kasper Schmeichel
Will Kasper Schmeichel follow the footsteps of his father and make the Manchester United goalkeeper jersey his own?

Leicester City had a very poor campaign this year, but whereas the performance levels of most their players have dropped, Kasper Schmeichel has thrived in goal.

Now 30 years of age, Schemichel has only spent three full seasons in the Premier League. But he has certainly made his mark. Last season he was a reliable figure in goal as Leicester pulled off the biggest shock in footballing history by winning the league. This season he improved further; being named Leicester Players' Player and Player of the season.

It would make sense for Schmeichel to join United. His father, Peter Schmeichel, played for the club between 1991-1999 and has gone down as one of the best goalkeepers in their history. Although Kasper has not yet enjoyed the same success of his father, he has shown his quality over the past two years after two superb seasons at Leicester City.

There is potential for a mass exodus at Leicester this summer. From their title winning squad, N’Golo Kante and Caludio Ranieri have already departed. Club captain Wes Morgan and Riyad Mahrez look set to follow suit. Could Kasper Schmeichel be next?
