Bayern Munich 1-1 Chelsea (3-4 on penalties) - Player ratings
Manuel Neuer - 7

The big German keeper didn't have too much to do, but still couldn't prevent Didier Drogba's 88th minute equaliser.
Phillip Lahm - 8 (right)
The reliable German right back showed his quality once again on Saturday night. Defended solidly and provided great service in attack. Didn't deserve to be on the losing side. World class.
Anatoliy Tymoshchuk - 6
A makeshift centre back for the night, he was rarely troubled and not tested at all. Very composed on the ball.
Once again, not troubled for large periods of the night and looked solid in defence. However let Drogba go fatally for the goal.
Diego Contento - 7
Before hand would've been identified as the weak line in the Bayern back line, but defended solidly and provided a constant attacking outlet down the left.
The young German prospect certainly looks like a brilliant player for the future and was calm and composed all night long.
Bastian Schweinsteiger - 8 (right)

Frank Ribery - 7
The tricky French winger posed a great threat down the left with Contento. Crossed for Muller goal and also won a penalty before being subbed off injured.
Thomas Muller - 7
Spurned a couple of early chances but made up for it with a goal. Subbed just before the
Arjen Robben - 5
Definitely not one of his greatest European nights, and seemed to spoon most of his shots high and wide. Penalty miss compounded his miserable night.
Mario Gomez - 5 (right)
The lethal striker was out of sorts throughout the game. Touch was off and shooting was too, shown by his lash over the bar in the first half. Scored penalty.
Subs:
Ivica Olic - 5 missed a glorious chance to be the hero and missed penalty. Daniel Van Buyten - 6 didn’t have to do much at all when called upon.
Petr Cech - 8 (left)
The big Czech goalkeeper kept goal brilliantly, stopping Robben's penalty in extra time and Olic's and Schweinsteiger’s in the shootout. Could do nothing about Muller's goal.
Ashley Cole - 9
The best left back in the world enforced this title with another quality display. Didn't give Robben a sniff all game. Top quality. Man of the match. David Luiz – 7
Formed a great partnership with Cahill, despite the game being his first game back from a hamstring injury. Solid at the back.
Gary Cahill - 8
Played brilliantly in the absence of Terry and more than filled his boots. Contained Gomez well. Brilliantly denied Gomez in extra time. Heroic display at the back.
Would definitely have been targeted by Bayern at the start of the game, but played fairly well in the absence of Ivanovic.
John Obi Mikel - 7
Has been a regular in the
Ryan Bertrand - 6
Was under huge pressure and Di Matteo couldn't have asked for much more on his champions league debut. Defended Robben well and Lahm well.
Frank Lampard - 7 (left)The trusty English midfielder put in a mature all round display and battled well for supremacy in the middle of the park. Chelsea needed his leadership.
Another player who I don't rate very highly at all, and didn't do himself many favours here. Got caught slacking on multiple occasions. Subbed.
Juan Mata - 5
Another who didn't contribute very much attacking wise at all despite his Spanish craft. Looked tired. Missed penalty which epitomised his fortune on the night.
Subs:
Fernando Torres - 7 Did well when he came on.
Florent Malouda - 5 Looked shaky when he made his entrance.
Totals:
84 vs 87
