CPR All Stars 3-0 FC Bracknell

After the 14-1 thrashing of whipping boys Liss Athletic last week, this week saw the much tougher challenge of mid table side, FC Bracknell.

However, due to 2 Bracknell players being sent off in a heated game against Hartley Whitney, as well as their keeper being unavailable, FC Bracknell turned up with their side seriously depleted, with only 11 men available to play.

In contrast, CPR had many more players than last week as they were boosted by the returns of Nott, Barby, Goggin, Morris, Hastings and Stroud, who all returned to the side.

The team lined up as follows:

GK: Kevany LB: Goggin CB: Morris CB: Hastings RB: Ross CM: Honeywood CM: Rolt LM: Parslow RM: Stroud CF: Dunnage ST: Lloyd-Bisley

Subs: Finlay, Rice, Nott, Barby

Despite the multiple number of returns there were injury concerns for CPR as well, with top scorer McMillan as well as central midfielder Adolphous unavailable through injury. Marsh missed out due to work commitments.

CPR were given the task of scoring within 10 minutes but it did not materialise in the way that they wanted, with clear cut chances few and far between.

However Stroud was looking menacing with runs down the right, and it was he who broke the deadlock.

Stroud broke the offside trap to perfection, and running onto Dunnage's through ball, coolly rolled the ball past the keeper and into the bottom corner.

CPR were playing possibly the worst football so far this season, having to resort to lumping the ball forward on multiple occasions rather then playing a fluid, passing style of football.

Nevertheless, CPR soon found the net for a second time, and it was Stroud who doubled his tally with a sublime finish.

Parslow, who was sporting his new Joma boots for the first time, put a ball through the middle to Stroud in virtually the same position as his previous goal.

However, this time he used the ball's bounce to his advantage and he lobbed the ball exquisitely over the keeper, with the ball dipping to nestle into the back of the net.

FC Bracknell rarely troubled the CPR defence and if it were not for a few defensive errors and mix ups, would've posed very little threat up front whatsoever.

CPR were still knocking on the door in their pursuit for a third that would essentially kill off the tie, but it seemed as if the ball was just not falling for them in the box.

However, after a bit of luck in the box, CPR increased their deficit via a fortuitous goal scored by Hastings.

After Stroud was scythed down on the right, Dunnage whipped a delicious ball in from the resulting free kick and Hastings eventually bundled the ball in with Lloyd Bisley also competing to score.

That's how the half ended and without reaching top gear, CPR found themselves a comfortable 3 goals up against an under strength Bracknell side.

The away teams misery was compounded when a defender was forced off roughly at the half hour mark, meaning they were forced to play the rest of the game with 10 men.

But CPR did not take advantage and push forward for further goals, and instead were left frustrated at their inability to put the ball in the back of the net, something that had not hindered their performances earlier on in the season.

Stroud was the culprit for missing 2 very good chances, as he spooned over an effort from 10 yards after a rare, CPR passing move.

And Stroud was left even more frustrated as he waltzed past 3/4 Bracknell defenders, before seeing his effort rattle off the post. Finlay also had a very good chance to score his 4th of the season, but his sweetly struck effort was well saved by the Bracknell keeper.

Bracknell were posing a bigger threat in the second half, playing route 1 football of their own that caught the CPR defence out on a number of occasions.

However the resilience of the CPR defence meant that Bracknell could not break through, with Honeywood, Hastings and Ross all defending admirably.

The game died down in the final 25 minutes, but there was one explicable miss towards the end of the game by one of the substitutes, Rice.

Rice, who was celebrating the birth of a baby sister earlier on in the day, found himself with acres of space at the back post, but was unable to convert as his header went wide from all of 3 yards out.

There was one more chance for FC Bracknell with their forward being denied by a diving save from Kevany, who kept the ball out when many thought it had hit the net.

That's how the game finished, and CPR cruised through against FC Bracknell. They did not play their best football by any means but 3 points is 3 points, and CPR did enough to extend their advantage at the top of the table with Hartley Whitney not playing this weekend.

Man of the match went to Honeywood, who put an energetic and typically tireless display in the centre of midfield to ensure that CPR walked away with a clean sheet.

Next week CPR play out their quarter final in the cup against Division 1 side Wokingham and Bracknell, and would undoubtedly be looking to perform better in their hunt for silverware at the end of the season.
