Top 5 goals of 2012
So 2012 has come and gone, and we have all witnessed an incredible year in the footballing world. Manchester City dramatically were crowned Barclays Premier League Champions, recovering from almost an impossible position, and Roberto Di Matteo steadied the ship to lead Chelsea to European glory. 2012 also saw a number of incredible goals scored, with each and every goal scored holding extreme value and significance. But some goals scored were simply exquisite, and I will name the top 5 goals scored in 2012, courtesy of the list of 10 provided by @BBCSporf.
The 10 goals on the list:
1) Hatem Ben Arfa vs Blackburn
2) Miroslav Stoch vs Genclerbirligi
3) Neymar vs Internacional
4) Peter Crouch vs Manchester City
5) Papiss Cisse vs Chelsea
6) Falcao vs America
7) Lionel Messi vs Brazil
8) Taison vs Rosenborg
5) Hatem Ben Arfa vs Blackburn
Ben Arfa is known for his wizardry and knack for scoring incredible goals, but this particular mazy run was just ridiculous. Ben Arfa bamboozled the minds of the Blackburn defence, twisting and turning to deceive his opponents, before rifling an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
3) Peter Crouch vs Manchester City
1) Zlatan Ibrahimovich vs England
Sublime. Unreal. Incredible. Just a few words that come to my mind when I think about this goal. What gives Ibra's goal the edge over Mexes' goal is that i had the pleasure of witnessing it live on TV. Sweden host England in the first ever game at their new stadium and they desperately need someone for inspiration; step forward Zlatan Ibrahimovich. He had already 3 goals to his name, but his 4th goal will go down in history. It looked like he was chasing down a lost cause, but Joe Hart's clearance was weak, and the big Swede senses his opportunity. 35 yards out from goal, 'Ibra' leapt into the air with ideas to catch Joe Hart out. He met the ball in midair with both feet off the ground, and generated enough power for the ball to fly towards goal. Despite his best efforts, Shawcross could not prevent the ball from crossing the line, and Zlatan Ibrahimovich had completed the impossible. It was the definition of perfection.
So there we have it, my best goals of 2012. If you disagree/agree or just simply want to leave a comment on your thoughts, follow me on twitter @JamesStroud1995, or comment on this post. Thank you for reading.

4) Taison vs Rosenborg
As soon as I saw this goal, I just thought of the famous Van Basten goal. Never have I heard of Taison, but the Brazilian was able to replicate the genius of Van Basten; meaning it must be some goal. He met a cross field ball sweetly, striking the ball from a tight angle into the very too left corner of the net, an extraordinary goal by the Brazilian. Apparently he is interesting Chelsea, and with this evidence I can see why.

Stoke and England front man Peter Crouch celebrates in front of an ecstatic Stoke City crowd |
This can only be described as individual brilliance by the tall Englishman. We've seen the technique that Crouch possesses, but this goal is simply epitomises his quality. The ball looked hard to control, but the former Liverpool man expertly controlled, before swivelling and unleashing a venomous volleyed effort towards goal. The ball dipped, and in the process leaving an astonished Joe Hart hapless to prevent the ball from nestling in the top corner.
2) Phillipe Mexes vs Anderlecht
Mexes is maybe unlucky that he hasn't earned top spot; on any other year he probably would've done so. This goal is just astonishing for a centre back. It seemed as if there was nothing on for the Frenchman, but Mexes had other ideas. Facing towards his goal, the Milan defender chested the ball down, before attempting an audacious overhead kick from 20 yards. The ball looked destined to go in, and it sailed perfectly into the top corner to cap a remarkable goal that would be remembered for many years to come.
