Suarez: a man in form

Image
Luis Suarez. Currently the name on everybody's lips that support England 's second most prestigious club. The Uruguayan magician had been in scintillating form this season, with his wizardry and intelligence up front bamboozling the mind of countless opposition defences. He is very much a man in red hot form, and he has been involved in virtually every Liverpool goal this year. The tricky South American has scored 10 of Liverpool 's 17 goals in the league this year, and also has 3 assists to his name. That is a mark of how important the man is to the football club, and based on those facts above, you could effectively call Liverpool a one man team. Suarez heads in to equalise against Chelsea The Uruguayan is not everyone's cup of tea at times, but regardless of what you think of him you have to admire his perseverance and sheer brilliance up front. Surrounded by mediocre team mates, Suarez doubles his efforts whenever his team are staring down the barrel of def...

CPR All Stars 4-2 Wokingham and Embrook

CPR All Stars extended their unbeaten streak to 4 games in the league this season, with a fine 4-2 win over high flying Wokingham and Embrook. CPR's opponents had played 3 and won 3 prior to arriving at 'the fortress' and had not conceded a goal in the process. The team lined up as follows: GK: Kevany LB: Goggin CB: Nott CB: Hastings RB: Ross CM: Rolt CM: Honeywood LM: Parslow RM: Stroud CF: Dunnage ST : McMillan Subs: Finlay, Barby, Rice Nott and Honeywood both returned to the starting lineup at the expense of Morris and Adolphous, both of which were away. CPR were also without Marsh and Lloyd-Bisley, who were also unavailable to play. The game started the same way every home game seems to start, with an early CPR goal. After a bright start from the home team, a long throw by Rolt was flicked on by the Wokingham left back after pressure from Stroud, and on hand was McMillan to tuck the ball through the legs of the keeper and into the net. This marked a terr...

Charlton Update: 14/11/2012

Image
At the start of the season, I predicted that Charlton would finish 9th. I fully believed that the squad who trounced all in their path last season would step up and prove themselves in a tougher division. However, it hasn't worked out the way that I thought it would, with a disappointing home record compounding the Addicks misery and consequently plunging Charlton into a fight for survival. But there have been both positives and negatives this year, and I will review what has gone right and what has gone wrong thus far. Addicks skipper, Johnnie Jackson, nets against Cardiff in a 5-4 thriller Firstly, Charlton's away form has been fairly impressive considering some of the results they have managed to achieve on the road. They have only been beaten twice on their 8 travels travels, a record which doesn't resemble a team fighting against relegation. They have beaten Ipswich, Bristol City and more impressively high flying Blackpool, whilst also claiming valuable point...

CPR All Stars 6-5 Tongham Predators

Curley Park Rangers extended their unbeaten streak at 'the fortress' with a hard fought 11 goal thriller over Tongham Predators. Once again CPR never really got into their stride, but walked away from the game extremely happy that they disposed of 2nd placed Tongham to earn a valuable 3 points. The team lined up as follows: GK: Kevany LB: Barby CB: Hastings CB: Morris RB: Ross CM: Dunnage CM: Rolt LM: Parslow RM: Stroud CF: Rice ST : McMillan Subs: Goggin, Adolphous CPR were without 5 players due to various reasons. Finlay was out with a hamstring problem, Lloyd-Bisley had still not recovered from his broken foot, Marsh was stuck at work, Honeywood was unavailable due to family reasons and Nott was out with illness. At their expense, Morris was able to start his first game of the season at centre back, Barby stepped in to fill in at left back and Ross started at right back. The game kicked off with Curley Park racing into the lead. Stroud beat a couple of player...

Dortmund - how far can they go?

Image
I have been very impressed by all the German clubs in this seasons Champions League, with Schalke, Bayern and Dortmund all looking good in their respective groups. However it is Dortmund who have stood out for me. Despite being in a group which sees the Champions of England, Spain, Holland and Germany all collide, Dortmund have not been phased and currently lie at the top of their group table. With the German club already bagging an impressive win against Man City , as well as holding off Real Madrid in both ties, the question must be asked: just how far can this fearless German side go? Dortmunds talented young duo Reus (left) and Gotze (righ The D ortmund side oozes quality all over the park. Weidenfeller is extremely accomplished in goal, and the back 4 of Schmelzer, Hummells, Subotic and Piszezek are all of a high standard. We've all seen how solid Hummells is at the back, and his composure and talent on the ball is a trait that has particularly caught my eye. Ho...

Surprise teams of the season

Image
THE GOOD Everton (4TH) Everton's in form Belgian, Marouane Fellaini The Toffees, as I have mentioned in a previous post, have been extremely impressive this season. They have been threatening to return to the top 4 for years, but this finally looks like the season when all their hard work comes together. For me, Everton have always been built around a solid defence and a mediocre attack. But with the new found brilliance of Marouane Fellaini in an attacking role, as well as the added attacking talent of Miralles and Jelavic, The Merseyside club have finally looked like possessing a very good attacking force. Lying 4th after 17 points from 10 games, if they can carry on this form and maintain it throughout the duration of the season, Everton could have a massive chance in returning to the Champions League at Arsenal's expense. West Brom (5TH) Steve Clarke has led his West Brom team to 5th in the League I predicted West Brom to be flirting with relegation throu...

CPR All Stars 12-0 Camberley Boys

Curley Park Rangers stormed into the quarter finals of the League Cup with a dominant display in which saw them crush local rivals Camberley Boys 12-0. With such a disappointing performance and result last week, Curley Park Rangers were looking to bounce back to winning ways and fielded a strong team in order to do so. The team lined up as follows: GK: Kevany LB: Finlay CB: Hastings CB: Honeywood RB: Marsh CM: Adolphous CM: Rolt LM: Parslow RM: Stroud CF: Dunnage ST : Rice Subs: McMillan, Ross, Morris, Barby In contrast to last week, the boys stormed out the blocks and took the lead with barely 5 minutes on the clock. Parslow opened the scoring with a cross/shot, which deflected off a Camberley player and into the net via the post. It was soon 2-0 when Rice slipped the ball through to Dunnage, and he showed great composure in slotting the ball beyond the keeper and into the roof of the net. Dunnage then doubled his tally a few minutes later after a mini scramble in the bo...
