England Player ratings - Uruguay
GK: Joe Hart - 6
Did absolutely nothing wrong. Could do nothing about the goals, sadly he came up against an in form and hungry Luis Suarez.
RB: Glen Johnson - 6
Probably one of England's better performers. Dangerous going forward but shaky in defence. Created Rooney's goal brilliantly.
CB: Gary Cahill - 6
On the most part dealt with Luis Suarez well. Dominant in the air against Cavani, but switched off fatally for Suarez's last winner.
CB: Phil Jagielka - 5
Did not cover himself in glory. Didn't look comfortable on the ball, and was not tight enough to Suarez for his 2 goals. Endured a tough night.
LB: Leighton Baines - 6
Defensive work was better under a lot less pressure and final ball was slightly better. Still rather have Ashley Cole.
CM: Steven Gerrard - 5
Little came off for him on the night. Will be remembered for the mistake which allowed Suarez to score.
CM: Jordan Henderson - 6
Another energetic performance by the Liverpool man but needs to get forward more. Again a calming presence in the centre of midfield.
LW: Danny Welbeck - 5
Poor. Tried to make things happen, but often ran into the Uruguay defence or ran out of play. Clumsy.
CF: Wayne Rooney - 7
Shut up the critics with his goal, marking his first in the World Cup finals. On a better day could've scored 4, and should've scored an easier chance minutes before his goal.
RW: Raheem Sterling - 4
Again, like Welbeck tried to make things happen but it just didn't happen. Uruguayans high pressure gave him no time on the ball, and no space to impress. Will learn from the experience.
ST: Daniel Sturridge - 7
England's best and most dangerous performer on the night. Unlucky not to score shortly after Rooney's, which may have turned out to be a winner. Will spearhead England's attack in the next World Cup.
Subs:
Ross Barkley - 5
Nullified in the same way in which Sterling was. Hasn't worked out for him in the 2 games in which he has appeared as sub.
Adam Lallana - 6
Looked settled when he came on in juxtaposition to the game against Italy. Provided bigger threat than Henderson.
Rickie Lambert - 5
Was the sub that needed to occur 20 minutes earlier. Offered an alternative but hard to do anything in the 5 minutes that he was on for.
