Are Tottenham being too ambitious?

Image
Tottenham have always been a team that have lingered around the Europa League places for a number of years, but in the past few seasons they have really been challenging for a place in the Champions League. Harry Redknapp has masterminded such an achievement, and you'd think he'd be rewarded for his efforts. Tottenham unluckily missed out on a Champions League place due to Chelsea's triumph in last years Champions League, therefore replacing Tottenham in next years competition. Nevertheless, breaking into the top 4 is some achievement, and you'd expect Redknapp to be rewarded for his efforts. However Daniel Levy and the rest of the Tottenham board felt otherwise, and consequently Redknapp was removed from his position as Spurs manager, to the disbelief of much of the foot balling world. But this sacking poses a massive question: are Tottenham showing too much ambition? Harry Redknapp unexpectedly lost his job after 4 successful years at the club Too many fans ac...

Liverpool FC - A Fresh Start

Image
Merely 7 years ago, Liverpool were celebrating being crowned Champions of Europe . But 7 years on from possibly Liverpool 's finest achievement in their illustrious history, the Reds hit a rough patch and failed to recover. Big names left, which contributed to the rapid fall of one of the worlds most prestigious clubs. But by ending their 6 year wait for a trophy in February last year, things may well be looking up for the Merseyside club. With exciting young Northern Irish manager Brendan Rodgers taking the reigns at Anfield, there is a new belief surrounding the Liverpool camp. But the question is; can Liverpool re-establish their status as one of the world’s biggest clubs? New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers would be looking to transform LIverpool's recent fortunes There is no doubt that Liverpool have been in turmoil for the last 3-4 years. Despite nearly snatching the Barclays Premier League title in the 2008/2009 season, ever since the Reds have plummeted dow...

The Future

Image
To conclude my recent articles about England , I will look into life for England after the European Championships. England come off the back of another disappointing major tournament, having crashed out to eventual runner ups Italy in the quarter final stage, courtesy of an agonising defeat on penalties. It is evident that we are a long way behind the modern day footballing giants; such as Spain and Germany , both of which are leaps and bounds ahead of England in terms of quality. But there is reason to be cheerful, with a bright new generation of young stars sure to emerge and sparkle on a national stage in the not too distant future. I will analyse and pick out the young stars who I think will break through and light up the national team in the lead up to Brazil 2014. Phil Jones Phil Jones is heavily tipped to become an England captain in the future He has been on the fringes of the national team, but has been deployed as a utility man in the games when he has been giv...

TENNIS: Is this Murrays year?

Image
With Murray eventually progressing to the last 16 with a hard fought win against Marcus Baghdatis, you would be forgiven for thinking that it may just be Murrays Wimbledon. Although Murray looked shaky in the tournaments leading up to SW19, including a shock 1st round defeat against Nicolas Mahut At queens a week prior, Murray has come out all guns blazing and has impressed in his opening 3 matches. They weren't exactly weak opponents either, with Davydenko being formerly being number 3 in the world rankings, Karlovic possessing an extremely venomous serve and Baghdatis formerly a grand slam finalist. With Murray disposing of this dangerous opposition with considerable ease, the question must be asked; Can Murray be the first British male since Fred Perry 76 years ago to win the coveted Wimbledon trophy? Murray  roars in delight on his way to a 4 set vicory over Baghdatis  I can understand why people would think that Murray does not have a chance. He has been promi...

Where did it all go wrong?

Image
I was devastated to witness England crash out of the European Championships on penalties, but the quarter final highlighted one thing. We are not good enough. Simple as that. Going into the championships I really thought we had a chance of going all the way, but around half way through against Italy it just hit me. This England team just don't have the ability to match the best. Regardless of what tactic we played, whether it is the long ball or high tempo football, we would've been beaten by Italy either way. I was quite surprised we made it all the way to penalties in fact, due to how much pressure we absorbed over the course of the game. We put in a valiant effort, but in the end Italy were worthy winners, and the result highlighted the mediocrity of the England squad. Pirlo showed his quality and ran rings around the England midfield Watching Pirlo run rings around us was painful more then anything and he is 33! Every good player has class in their team, but ...
